Sorry for the unclear title, I wasn't sure how to word it. I'll try to keep this short.
I interviewed for position a few months ago with a company which I'd really like to work for. Unfortunately they went with an internal candidate, and the hiring manager asked if he could keep my resume for future opportunities. Of course I said yes.
Now, there is an opening for a different position that I'd be interested in. It doesn't match my work history although it requires some of the same skills. I'm a better fit in the first position I interviewed for, but I have no qualms about being in a position that will allow me to get my foot in the door.
How do I reach out to the hiring manager to let me him know I'm interested? Do I simply send an email saying "Hey, I'm interested in this job. What are your thoughts?" Or is another way better?
FYI, this company does not do traditional applications. They simply ask that you send your resume to their HR dept. Since both HR and the hiring manager have my resume, I figure I don't need to do that again.
