Manager I networked with probably under lots of stress now

Long story short, a manager of a company I want to work for in a couple of years (I am a senior in high school) visited me last year during a fair and gave me his email and phone number so that I could contact him.

We've been in contact for a while via email and he became my project advisor, but as I was about to email him on a few questions on my current project, I found out that the company just reduced its workforce last night. From what I understood, he shouldn't have been fired by this event (since it seems that the R&D and production workforce was impacted the most but he's working on integration and procedures on the other side of the country) but that doesn't mean his coworkers or anybody else haven't been affected.

I understand this is stressful for him, but when would an appropriate time be for me to email him again since the project is due in about 25 days? I am thinking around 2 weeks?

If I email him and it turns out the email doesn't exist anymore (fired?), I would need to contact him via phone but I can't think what to text(?) him without sounding greedy.
