How to answer interview question "Why did you leave your previous job"

So, at my last job I hurt my back on the job. I applied for, and was denied workman's comp. My lawyer is currently appealing this decision. In the meantime, frustrated with how this all played out, and my generally low opinion of how the company treats safety and people hurt at work there, I resigned my position. (This is a well known company and there's plenty of reports with the same opinion about how they treat safety and their workers).

But, at my last interview, I feel the interviewer thought this was not a good enough reason to leave a job, and I feel I will not get a call back because this was essentially the only question he asked me.

What do I do if asked this again? Is there a better way to spin this?
