I'm in a little bit of a situation and I don't know how to approach it to get the outcome I want.
I'll give the background first (sorry in advance for the essay and mistakes, I'm on mobile. Throw away account just incase.)
I joined my current company about 20 months ago and decided to leave 2 months ago when it became apparent that I wasn't getting the promotion I was promised. There are 2 roles in my department, effectively jnr and snr level of the same job. I was jnr level when I joined and took over the snr job role about 14 months ago when someone left. I achieved an above average on my annual performance review and I know I'm a important cog that will be impossible to replace on my wage and at my current level of jnr.
My colleagues often comment that they don't understand why I'm not at a snr level as I'm good at my job and I'm responsible for more than some other snr level team members.
So I decided to do what anyone who knows their value would do and leave. My specific job role is quite niche and in high demand. I had 2 interviews and got 2 job offers, I accepted 1 of them.
My current salary is low £30ks and my new salary will be £50k, so a significant jump and it's a good move for my career.
My current job is near to home, about 30 minutes each way, the new job is about 1 hour 30 minutes each way. The commute isn't ideal, but I've done similar for 3 years prior to the role I'm in now, but it did leave me exhausted and with no spare brain power.
Which brings me onto the main point, I've just found out my girlfriend is pregnant! (reddit gets to find this out before my friends, sooo, congrats!) I, and she, don't particularly want the commute with a baby on the way. This is new news since I decided to look for another job and I feel like it's almost completely changes my priorities.
So my question is, how do I tell my manager I don't want to leave but I have an offer that I will accept if I don't get a raise and a change in job title to reflect what I actually do? I have a monthly catch up with my manager on Friday where I want to raise this.
The outcome I want is to stay where I am with a raise and improved job title, however I will absolutely leave if I'm told no and then maybe look for another job nearer home if needed.
For employment law considerations, I'm in the UK.
