Hello, I’m a first time poster so I apologize if I do anything wrong!
I’ve been at my company for nearly three years (three in May) and I used to love it. I work with animals which is my true passion, and I’m damn good at what I do.
About a year ago I accepted a promotion into management, and this is where things went downhill. It became very apparent very quickly that my direct supervisor is lazy, and will do anything she can to put work on me instead of her. I’m responsible for the discipline and training of about twenty people and any behavior issues the animals have. This means I have a lot of tough, often emotionally charged conversations. I’ve become incredibly stressed, and loathe my job now. The animals aren’t enough for me to stay anymore, even though I know I would miss them. There are also multiple other unhappy employees.
There are a few things keeping me here. The first is the pay. I live in California so making $18 an hour has made my life so much easier. I also just took on an auto loan because my beater car finally gave out (RIP) and I don’t want to go back to struggling with my bills and cost of living. I also know leaving will not be easy, the boss is known for arguing and trying to talk people out of quitting.
I’m also feeling very trapped because I don’t necessarily want to work with animals or do customer service based work anymore, but that’s all of my experience. I have two management positions on my resume now, but I’ve discovered customer service management is definitely NOT for me, and I’m not super fond of employee discipline either.
I don’t have any education past high school because I couldn’t afford to sacrifice hours at my old jobs, and now my schedule is 9-6 so I don’t have time to go now unless I take online classes. So, not sure where I could go and still make a comparable wage with no education.
This job is ruining my mental health, and it doesn’t help that I have depression that isn’t currently being treated (but will be in a month) which I’m sure makes me feel worse about everything.
Has anyone ever successfully changed fields without education and been happier? Should I just take a massive pay cut and start over somewhere else that I may not love but would likely be less stressed?

TL;DR I hate my job due to feeling overworked and unsupported in a management position and want to change jobs to not doing what I currently do, with no education. Am I hopeless?
