Not sure if this is the proper place to ask this. If not if someone could direct me to a better place to have this answered I'd appreciate it. Also appreciate any insight I can get. Sorry if this is long-winded.
My situation:
I'm 29 years old and was just fired from a job that I've had since I was 16. I've never been fired before and never filed for unemployment before now. The reasoning I was let go was over harassment of a coworker. This is a girl I had a crush on, asked her out 2 1/2 years ago and was rejected. We tried just being friends and things were going well I thought. There came a time 6 months later (2 years ago from now) where my feelings for her were brought back up and we had a long discussion. She told me she wanted to take baby steps to put all this behind us. The following day she went to the supervisor and make a big issue about wanting to be left alone. I was instructed by my supervisor not to speak to her unless it was just for work purposes.
Fast forward to a month ago and someone spoke to her step-brother and told him to tell her that I wanted to speak to her. This lead to her filing a complaint and an investigation was held. The findings of the investigation lead to my termination, despite the fact that I hadn't spoken to her in almost 2 years other than work related interactions just like I was instructed. I was not given full details of the findings of the investigation per company policy so I really don't even know how I was found guilty. I didn't speak to her nor her step brother, nor did I ask anyone to speak to her on my behalf.
So now I'm in the process of filing for unemployment. I was sent a questionnaire by email from the New Jersey department of labor asking for details of separation, pay after last day worked, etc.. In the section asking about separation there are questions along the lines of do I admit to the allegations. Obviously having not spoken to her in almost years I don't feel like I was in violation and I don't admit to doing any wrong. My question is for the sake of unemployment though, is it better to just say yes I admit to it and see where that goes or continue to argue that I've done nothing wrong? The company is saying I did it so is it better to just go along with their findings or continue to fight it? I understand that being let go for harassment can make me ineligible for benefits or can delay them but what option is going to give me the best chance to make sure I receive unemployment?
