Is this time of year a bad time to be applying for jobs?

I've applied for several jobs in the last month or so. Most still have a status of "accepting applications" or "open". I'm just not hearing anything back. I'm assuming that most everyone is traveling this time of year for thanksgiving/christmas, but why not just wait until after the new year and post your jobs...?
