I want to switch to working at a direct competitor to my job; the hours, pay, and workplace attitudes are much better there. It's retail. How do I do it?
I have a non-compete, and so I'm very worried about my new workplace 1) viewing my switching as being overly fickle and 2) calling my workplace and getting me fired while trying to ascertain my basic HR information.
I'm an extremely low level employee, not even a manager. They did invest some money into my training but will not let me do much in my new position and keep plopping me in my department I hated, due to lack of coverage, much to the detriment of my new position. They refuse to give me full time hours even with my covering another department. There is a bit of a toxic working environment at my store, which while it is on the mend, I still see as a negative as it will continue to be that way until probably halfway through 2019 the way things are going. I've only been there a year and a half, and I'm 21.
They aren't giving me a good reason to be loyal to the company. There's an opening for my same position, but full time with more, better training, about 10 minutes from my house (cutting my 2 hour commute). I also wouldn't be in my old department at ALL. This seems like a good move for me.
