Has anyone who switched companies in the IT Sales industry found the switch to be better? Looking for a non sales role if possible
Hoping someone who sees this and has been in a similar situation can give me some feedback. I work for a large IT reseller in NJ. I've been there for 10+ years, and had roles in sales (both inside and outside), I was a product specialist for a time, and currently I do what they call "sales operations," which is really just a fancy word for making sure our sales reps don't completely fuck up.
I'm at the point where I do not see a future here. I'm in my mid thirties and this company notoriously underpays its support staff. There is little investment into the career skills of employees, it is extremely political, and I'm just seeing less and less opportunities for any advancement that doesn't involve sales. I tried outside sales. The commission plan was 100% and it was a nightmare.
That being said, I've thought about looking for jobs at other companies in the IT sales industry. Given my experience among sales and sales support and my time in the industry, do I have an advantage in getting hired for more? I make less than $100K now. Has anyone made the switch and found there were opportunities? Or would I be starting at entry level again?
Thanks. I need hope.
