Can I be scrutinized for using sick days

I work for a major health care company. I graduated college in may and accepted this job in July. I’m well past my probation time and have accrued sick time, personal time, and vacation time. My time there has been fine - no write ups, no complaints filed against me, on time etc.

I’ve had to call out more than I’d like to for health reasons all documented with doctors notes. None of them were reasons like “I have a cold”:

  • August strep throat
  • October I fell at work and sustained and injury (Workmans Comp)
  • October I unexpectedly passed out and missed almost a week with a concussion
  • last Friday I had to get a test done from the fall I had at work under Workmans comp
  • Today raging case of strep throat and ear infection. Doctor says I need to be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning.

Before reaching my 90 days, I took the “sick days” as unpaid days off because I didn’t have the PTO to use.

I used a sick day for today and told my supervisor what’s going on and he just said okay - nothing more. I texted him a copy of the note and will provide him with a hard copy tomorrow. My parents are beginning to scrutinize me for using paid time off when applicable because they said it’s almost excessive.

My employer has yet to say anything. Is my employer able to reprimand me for using paid time off despite having a doctors note? I mean the other alternative is I go in miserable with a fever and possibly spreading strep throat to a community of 200 clients and 50+ staff members.
