I've been at my job for about eight months now, and I really like it. My manager is supportive and sweet, I'm learning a lot of new skills and gaining valuable experience, and my office is composed of a good group of co-workers...mostly.
I have one co-worker who is extremely abrasive. She is inpatient whenever giving instructions or guidance. She is passive aggressive. She can be demeaning. And she can't seem to have a discussion about a project without escalating and using an elevated tone while frantically spewing out information that is difficult to keep up with. I end up feeling bad after any encounter with her, because my blood pressure is through the roof and my mind can only focus on the heated exchange.
All in all, I am growing to despise working with her. Any time she blows up on someone, the entire office can hear it. She "went off" on me today, and a few co-workers confirmed that they heard it and thought it was troubling. Fortunately, I have one co-worker who has been experiencing the same, and we are able to lean on each other for support.
I am considering escalating this to my manager. I don't feel like I can have a productive discussion with the culprit co-worker at this point, because there is a personality deficiency. I wrote up a detailed bulleted list of the different examples of the abusive behavior. I was planning on addressing this with my manager as soon as she is available for a one-on-one.
Does anyone here have any practical insights on how to handle this delicate situation (with co-worker or manager)? Obviously, I don't want to get anyone in trouble here, but I don't believe I, or anyone else, deserves the treatment that we get from her.
