So to keep things brief, I have recently finished my university studies and currently have a few employment options on the table but am really struggling to weigh up which option is best.
Basically, I have had my eyes on a graduate programme within my dream company for years. I am now at the third stage (out of four) of the recruitment process with them and basically have a 1 in 8 chance at landing a role with them. This role would start in February, and I was loosely planning on doing some traveling over the next couple of months before then (I even have a few things already booked). I also have applied for another company's graduate programme as a back up, and am open to other options as well.
Today however I have received an offer from another company, to do a short term research project for them. This would start in a weeks time and run until March. It is a very interesting and relevant work project, however doing this would mean moving at short notice to a new city, cancelling my travel plans and giving up my chances with the company I really want to work for. As a recent graduate though part of me feels I need to accept this offer as there's no guarantee of the graduate programme I've applied for making me an offer, and one in the hand is worth two in the bush right? I feel like if I turned the short term project down and then wasnt made an offer from my dream company or the other one I've applied for after, I would regret it. However deep down I feel it would be a great sacrifice to give up my travel plans and my opportunity to pursue my dream graduate programme when I am already quite well through the recruitment process with them.
Please help give me some advice on weighing up whether I should accept the short-term research project or not! I am feeling very torn and don't know which option I should take?
