So ill give a quick backstory so you understand my situation. I'm currently working at UPS as a package handler on preload and due to the timing of when I was hired on and with peak season coming up, my 30 day probation is on freeze until January. It's been about 4 weeks since I started and I've been doing what I can to work my ass off and my supervisors are all incredibly supportive and helpful. My only issue is that I'm struggling financially. I'm not yet getting the hours I need, however I spoke to my operations manager and he is willing to put me on as a driver helper before peak season which would allow me to basically work as many hours as I want but there might be the potential for me to be a dispatcher as well which would also give me the hours I need and a raise. In my search for another part time job, I got a call from FedEx and my interview was today and this is basically how it went... During the call my interview was scheduled for 12 noon but when I went in the HR lady said it was scheduled for 2 but she continued to "interview" me anyway even though there weren't very many questions asked. I told her I was working for ups and she told me that they have A LOT of people (even supervisors and operations managers) that come from ups as she continued to bash the company that has been so supportive and willing to go out of their way to help me out. I understand that ups and FedEx are competitors but this seems incredibly unprofessional to me. She wasn't even trying to convince me that FedEx would be a better option she was just straight up talking shit, saying stuff like "management at ups doesn't actually know what they are doing or talking about and FedEx doesn't have to deal with any of that union crap" It was about a 10 minute conversation before she offered me the job and gave me a few papers and I left. Obviously it was not a very enjoyable interview or a good first impression. I told her I would call by Monday with an answer.
Now I'm leaning more towards staying with ups and trying to become a dispatcher or just going out with the drivers as I seek out advancement no matter where it is in the company since they have been so good to me. I know that I can easily be replaced if I leave but I feel valuable to the company because of how my higher ups are treating me. I also understand that every job comes with its fair share of BS but My question to you is how is your experience with FedEx/UPS? Good or bad. Would it be worth it to leave UPS for FedEx with the offers that have been made? I apologize for such a long post but I appreciate any and all feedback!
