I’m currently 2 years in to a high-stress mid management position with a professional orchestra. I work in Operations, which is primarily event and project management. I’ve been successful in the role, and feel like I have the skills to approach most other fields: good with Excel, good at dealing with clients and stressful situations, creative problem solving, good writing skills.
Problem is, I have a Bachelor’s in Music and a Master’s in Clarinet Performance. So my schooling doesn’t necessarily scream office environment- although my Bachelor’s was from a top 40 liberal arts school
I’m currently being considered for a Director position in the field. Due to a variety of reasons, I’m thinking of leaving the orchestra field. (Fun fact: orchestra musicians have the same job satisfaction rates as prison guards!)
I’m looking for a field with greater earning potential. I like challenging work, where no day is identical to the last, with a healthy mix of computer work, meetings, and travel. I tend to excel in positions where creative solutions are important and I feel very relied upon.
Any suggestions for new fields I could look in to? I’m not opposed to additional schooling.
TL;DR Successful in nonprofit event management, looking for new career ideas
