I've been looking to switch careers, and recently applied to a job that seems perfect for me. Made it through interviews, and the last step before (hopefully) receiving an offer is to provide my professional references. Today, my former mentor told me that they were contacted by my new potential employer, and gave a glowing recommendation and said that they'd be stupid not to give me an offer. HOWEVER, they also told them that they were going to advise me to NOT accept the offer, and apparently listed all the ways they thought that the job would be a career killer for me. Now I'm worried that because they did this, I won't be offered the position. Do you think this potentially puts me behind other candidates? Did they shoot me in the foot?
I'm thinking of emailing the HR rep who contacted my references, and letting them know that I'm definitely interested. I've met them in person and interacted over email before, but I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not.
