I've been looking for a job for a while, and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I don't even get any sort of rejection notices, just silence.
This recent one really bothers me. A recruiter contacted me about this position that seemed like a really good fit for me, better than most of what I've found. I had a nice phone interview with the employer. They told me they would contact me by the end of the week. The end of the week comes along and I hear nothing. On Monday I try to call them back, but the phone is a conference phone. I try to contact the recruiter again, who I had spoken with several times, emailed, and even texted. All I get from her is silence.
LinkedIn used to give me tons of jobs to choose from. Eventually the options started disappearing, and now I get absolutely nothing. And I don't mean just things I'm not interested in or qualified for, I mean literally nothing. I tried widening my career interests, but LinkedIn still won't give me any results. I feel like I've been blocked or something.
I just don't understand why I don't get any sort of rejection notice at all. I've received a few, but oddly enough those were only for jobs which I wasn't quite qualified enough for. It's not like it's difficult to copy all the applicants email addresses into the BCC field and send a rejection email, even less effort if the system is automated. For the smaller companies I might expect this, but I've applied to bigger companies and government jobs and expect better from them. Especially since some of them I know have sent rejection notices to other people in the past.
There must be something wrong with me, something I'm doing wrong, but I can't figure out what it is. Forget interviews or job offers, why don't I even get any rejection notices? Why do recruiters contact me and then ignore me? Am I on some secret blacklist or something? Is it because I don't have an "American" name? I've put so much time and effort into this but I feel like I'm just getting farther away.
