I currently live and work in wichita, ks as an accountant making about 56k/year. I’ve recently been offered a new role within the company and a salary increase of 7k. I’ve been with the parent company for over 4 years and this specific company since Jan of this year. The development opportunities are great, the amount of experience i’ve gained is great and there’s no doubt that i could transition into even greater roles here. However, i hate living in Wichita. I can honestly say i’ve given it a fair chance..meetups, joined organizations, started focusing on cooking more/working out, volunteering, got serious about savings etc. I have no family/friends within 6 hours of here and dread coming home from work everyday. As an young, AA female i just don’t feel a sense of community. I can feel/see the signs of depression/anxiety creeping back up, although trying to stay positive. I’ve recently interviewed with a different company but nothing lined up as of yet. I have until next Friday to accept new offer. Would it be a bad idea to decline? I don’t like the idea of accepting and reneging in a couple of months. but i’m also big on financial security so don’t want to set myself up for failure. Any advice?
