Can having an evil company on your resume hurt future job hunt?

I have an offer from a company that is fast growing. It's a good opportunity to advance my skill set and is a promotion. However, the company is privately held and has a reputation for getting involved in politics. It also has a reputation for treating it's employees somewhat capriciously and paternalisticly. I am debating accepting the job (more money, better benefits, and resume building) and keeping my head down for a couple years and then moving on.

Assuming I am very competent... Would you look down on a job applicant for working at a company that is perhaps a bit evil? Would you attribute the companies political leanings to the candidate? Would you assume the company has a "mold" and that the candidate was of that mold?
