I am interviewing on the phone with the in house recruiter for Protolabs and I gave them a relatively extensive resume with minimal sugar coating. I was emailed Monday morning--12 hours after contacting them.
They are a major rapid prototyping company and I was merely looking at their 3D printing specialist position. I would understand the technical limitations of the machines, overview customer orders in CAD software, work with sales people on what's possible, etc.
I have a BSBA in General Management and a decent portfolio around CNC routers along with entry level CAD. I've done soldering, entry level programming, and other stuff. I am tired of running my small business, and want to get into a corporate job.
I've never done an interview before but it appears the company is after intuitive, fast learning, and technically involved people--not credentials per say. I do not have any corporate BS nor the capacity to excel at the interview since I've never done one. My resume clearly states my history of self employment, and working for small businesses before--along with the hundred hundred grand of products I made with CNC routers and sold online.
I lack the 2 or 4 year technical degree but satiate the needed "experience" as an alternate.
So far I have an overview of what I'll say if they ask about what I can do for the company. My actual weakness is I've never worked corporate and am a recovering entrepreneur.
Glass door rates the company high, the interviews long, and the people relatively serious--which is fine as I'm 26 but act old anyhow.
Any advice? I think I'll get rather nervous here and blow it.I am low vision which is a borderline disability (have a doctor's letter that made college a bit easier) and didn't disclose it. Just got my license back, and feel this job is what I really want. Can I use this as an advantage?
