Should I hit up the hiring manager with a status update?

So I ended up having an interview for a position that is absolutely perfect for me last week. I felt like I aced both interviews, both done in one day. They said they would hit me up Monday or Tuesday next week (which is this week) to speak more, which leads me to my question...

Should I hit up the hiring manager with a status update today or tomorrow? Or should I wait till they contact me? I know they're interviewing other applicants and I don't want to be too forward, but I also don't want to be forgotten either.

I felt extremely confident and feel like I got the position, but the anticipation of not getting a confirmation yet (speak it into existence) really is eating me up on the inside.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
