Professionals who have dedicated years to the HR field, would you say this is a fulfilling career path?
Hello all, posting here for the first time in search of folks who have worked in HR for at least 5 years.
I am currently finishing my undergrad, major in psychology and minor in business. I’m considering a few career options at the moment, including getting a masters in Industrial Organizational psychology. I have this planned because I’ve always thought a career in HR would be nice, but i worry it would end up being monotonous, inflexible, and overly professional for my character.
While my skill sets align well with what’s expected of someone in HR, I would consider myself to be a bit of a free spirit. My biggest fear is that I’d end up forsaking the lively parts of myself to sit in front of a computer for 8 hours in uncomfortable business attire everyday for the foreseeable future.
Thus begs the questions if you’ve worked in HR for 5+ years, how do you like it? Is it a career you would suggest to a young professional? If so, what are some certifications or educational experiences that would give an applicant a leg up in these kinds of positions? What are some pros of working in HR? Cons?
