[Posting for a friend] Got my first job offer out of college, but there might be a problem with the background check..
Hi everyone,
I recently graduated from college and just got me first job offer. It is with a company that belongs to Bank of America and they sent me a pre-hire background check with questions on it.
One of the question asks if I have any involvement in other businesses as a owner, co-owner, etc. I technically am the co-owner of a company I started with a friend to do Amazon FBA. However, I never did any actual work, nor did he, and the company is for all purposes dormant. Furthermore, I never gave me SSN when opening the business and the address is listed under his name. The only evidence I found of me on the company filing is my name under: authorized persons.
As such, I was wondering if it was okay to just check the box that says I am not involved in other business. I don't want there to be the potential hassle of explaining to them what the company is, or why I didn't mention it during interviews.
On the other hand, I am worried that they can do some database search with me name and find it and that they would be upset by that and rescind the offer. I should mention that I am under the process of resigning from the company, but it is a process that takes some time so I am still technically the co-owner.
Thoughts?
