I'm 53 years old, been at my place of work for 26 years in a variety of positions, and make 6 figures. I work my ass off for that money - 60+ hours a week and no end in sight. I'm also a frumpy, overweight woman and feel like the days of being seen for my performance are long gone. Now, I'm just the older lady who is there blocking someone else from being promoted. My job is secure - I'm good at what I do - but I've risen as far as I will. I'm also burned out beyond belief.
The thing is that I have to work because I'm the primary breadwinner in my home. My husband is a year from retiring and if I step back and take a pay cut (assuming someone would hire me) it would be painful financially for my family. It's hard to think that, best case scenario, I have 9 more years of stress before I can retire.
Any good stories of older people moving jobs and being happy and fulfilled?
