Hi everyone,
Tomorrow I have an interview with TTI (Techtronic Industries) for an entry-level position. The position I believe I am being interviewed for is 'Event Marketing Specialist.' I am confident in my ability to convey the basics of interview questions (Except maybe "why are you good for this position?" or "why should we choose you?"), but I am not entirely confident in my ability to ask the right questions. Here's what I know about the position and what it offers:
- Event Marketing Specialists focus on selling to customers, doing product demonstrations, building relationships with store associates, and gaining additional merchandising space.
- Company Car. I am given a card to pay for gas. for work/personal use.
- 52k Salary. This is entry-level. So far this is the best offer yet from anyone else I have been looking at.
- Quick Advancement. Supposedly if I "perform" well in 6-7 months, I can get promoted.
- Opportunities to be creative. I love creating as much as I love working with people and solving problems. I don't care how impractical may sound. The point is that I am brainstorming and I may have one good idea out of the 100 I blurted out.
Now the cons I have found...
- No sick time. Have to take PTO. It's a bummer! I choose a vacation, not a virus.
- Nepotism. GlassDoor reviews claim that your work ethic means nothing. it's based on how much your boss likes you.
- Performance has nothing to do with promotions. Going off on the above bullet point. If I am in a Home Depot store that performs well, I am going to look better than I actually am.
- Relocation. The relocation is covered, but if I were to take a promotion, they would move me across the country. My grandfather has cancer, my family is in Florida, and I just don't want to leave them behind. TL;DR - I have a lot of unfinished business with family relations and would prefer to stay in Florida to hopefully have a shot at reconnecting with my father.
- BORING!!! I currently work at Home Depot now, and I am bored as it is being a cashier. I would hate to be bored on the job - especially if I don't feel professional growth or experience.
- Deception. Reps have a REPutation for exaggerating some things about the job, and I want honesty. I want to know I am serving a purpose and have some risk involved.
So lets I show up for my interview tomorrow. What should I ask? The benefits are nice, but I want to address the problems above. What should I look for in their answer? What terms can/should I negotiate?
P.S. I also want to point out that I am investing myself in a career at Home Depot. I enjoy the environment and feel like the company suits my values well. Honestly, I just want to have a work-life balance where I don't have too many living expenses, have financial freedom > financial security, and enjoy the time I have left with family.
