What makes a micromanager?

I have a feeling my manager is a micromanager but I'm not sure and I feel like I'm going crazy. My supervisor swings by every 30 minutes and checks what we are doing and at lunch break they keep walking behind me. I get in first thing in the morning, open my computer and they messages me within 2 minutes (I'm not exaggerating). They get huffy when I do things my way and also when I slow down from doing things to take notes (I'm in training). They shoot down ideas I have without hearing my explanations. It's getting to the point I recognize them by their footsteps and breathing and I feel my muscle tense up. All I know is I don't like this style of managing.
