Terminated before my contract is over. What can I say to HR?

Was very shocked today to receive a letter from my supervisor telling me my contract will be terminated earlier than usual (in two more weeks). My supervisor didn’t even provide a reason until I asked her to give me one. She said “it is what it is” and that I just wasn’t the top performer.

However, I have received nothing but positive feedback ever since coming here. I just had my performance review and I was ranked as “exceeding expectations” and that she would recommend me for a permanent position. My supervisor also sent me a personal email the other week telling me what a good job I was doing. Even my coworkers were surprised she would say that because she isn’t the type to say nice things. So, I am completely blindsided by what happened today. To add, I am the only person who has received this notice of termination (although my supervisor said there will be others but I was the first).

I am planning on meeting with HR to talk about this. Is there even a point to that? I’m so frustrated that no one gave me any feedback until today (which was very vague itself). Why would something like this happen? Should I also meet with my boss’s boss?
