I should say I finally landed one that I actually like, haha. After a COVID layoff I was on unemployment for quite awhile and then worked for an Amazon DSP as a driver for a short time until I was offered this position recently. I hated just about every minute of driving for Amazon but it paid the bills and I was glad for that. Prior to the layoff I was in the food/hospitality sector and I am now working in the non-profit sector. The wage works for me and they also offer a generous benefits package along with employee sponsored training in order to develop your career. I don't have a car so a really great bonus is that it's a short walk from my place!
My co-workers and manager are great to work with and it's really nice to not feel like a number and be treated like a person and not just a worker. I'll be able to pay my bills and build up my savings as well. I'm feeling really grateful and like the COVID job loss mess and stress is finally behind me and it's a new beginning that I'm really excited about. I'm middle-aged and it's been pretty stressful starting over again, trying not to go backwards too far income-wise and feeling like my age is seen as a negative (by some) vs offering the value that can sometimes come with age and experience. Here's to new beginning's! 😊
