I am wanting to give less notice than is in my contract.

I am writing my resignation letter, my notice should be two months, but I want to offer one month. In doing this should I state that whilst I know the notice period should be two months, that I am requesting to reduce this to one (there are many, many reasons) or do I just put an end date and hope no one says anything?
