I should probably start by giving you some context. I'm 22 years old and about 4 months ago I was hired by a small growing company to work in a warehouse for minimum wage. I do a lot of manual lifting and relabelling stock. It's shitty work for shitty pay and I'm beginning to get tired of it. My boss owns a small phone repair shop, and I've decided to work in there on Saturdays for free so I can pick up the skill and gain some valuable experience. This shop has started to profit a lot more in the last 2 months, and the guy who's running it now has only been doing it for a month, and is now getting 10% commission each month if sales exceed £9000. I want a piece of that pie for myself, and figure the best way to do it is to work for free and earn it that way. I did my first shift yesterday and it was great.
My friends think I'm an idiot for working for free, and mocked me when I told them what I was doing, but I see it as a long term investment that could pay off in just a few months.
What do you all think about this? Am I being a smart boy, or am I being mugged off like my friends tell me I am?
