Hi reddit, I applied for a job that I felt I am highly qualified for and got an interview. The interview was extremely short (less than 10 minutes) and they told me I qualified in every regard and emailed me a bunch of paperwork to read and sign before I started the new job. They even offered a higher position than the one I applied for with a higher pay but as the role I initially sought was more relevant to what I was currently studying in the industry I asked them if I could start with the role I applied for and work my way up to that other position which they happily agreed to. They told me they would train me for the role I applied for while mixing in work from the other position to prepare for me to move to that department in the future. To clarify, I felt I was also not yet as qualified as they thought for the other position but in probably a year my studies and experience in the role I sought would more than qualify me for the responsibilities for the higher position. I reviewed and signed all the paperwork they sent over the day after and sent an email to the person who interviewed me and wrote an email informing them. This was yesterday (Saturday).
My issue is I haven't been given a start date or any information after that email with all the paperwork for onboarding. Usually I wouldn't be too concerned but this job is only a few steps away from my dream job in the industry and I guess im more anxious than usual as a result. I'm a bit confused by the lack of information after they hired me. The paperwork is still in review so I'm assuming I'll probably hear from them after its all been approved but I also know the industry and know that weekends are the days they are probably most likely to be open and working (there is no set schedule for this job/industry in general which they did mention in the interview) so I thought I would more likely get a reply or more information on a weekend than weekday.
I just want to know when I start training and can start my new job and even though its only been a few days the suspense is killing me. I've gotten hired on the spot a couple of times in the past but sometimes they just ghost me right after (usually they don't send onboarding paperwork when this happens though).
My question is how long should I normally wait to hear back from a company after they hire me and I fill out all the paperwork? Is there anything I can do to speed up the process?
TL;DR
Got hired on the spot for what essentially is a dream job this Friday. Filled out all necessary paperwork on Saturday. Emailed my contact asking what day I start but no response yet. Hasn't been too long but due to being ghosted in similar scenarios by other companies in the past I am anxious and want to know if there is anything more I can do to confirm my start date.
