What do you wear for “business casual” work attire?

I’m hoping to get some insight as to what is considered “business casual”. Every work environment I’ve been in has been extremely casual and I want to make sure I get this right. My biggest issue is I’m working with kids as a teaching assistant so I want to be able to move. Are pants that look better than jeans/leggings work or do they need to be specific dress pants? I have lots of nice sweaters and button down shirts I think would work but any direction is appreciated
