Two interviews for same company, different teams. Should I tell them one of the teams approached me first to entice the other to make an offer?
So for context, I work for the government as a subcontractor. I applied for 3 jobs to get on with the actual government contract, to no longer be a sub. So it's the same "company" but drastically different teams.
One of the teams managers actually approached me and practically begged me to apply, saying they've heard such good things about me, talked to me several diff times and told me what to put on my resume to get past HR. I'm like 92% sure I would get the job. Let's say it's job #1.
After hearing about that one, two more opportunities came up that I qualify for. One of those positions is the one I want really bad. Let's call that one job #2.
The first team to call was the one I want really badly. Job #2. Interviews Monday.
However if I don't get that position I want to take the job that approached me. I don't know who's going to offer first, but I don't want to be a jerk and accept job #1, work a couple of weeks, they spend money on background and drug test and training, then get an offer for job #2, and leave to go to that one after just starting.
For my interview for job #2, could I say something at the end like, "I really appreciate your time and I just want to be up front and honest with you, I was approached to apply for another position, and I don't want to lose out on any opportunities. I don't know when I'll be meeting with them however they were really wanting me to apply for the job. I just want to be honest and let you know, and I really want this position because it aligns better with my long term goals and skills."
In other words, hey guys, make an offer before these guys do so I don't have to piss anyone off and I can get the job I want.
What would you do in this situation? Thank you so much
