I ran for US Congress but did not win the primary. I have never included this on my main resume, but I'm looking to do a career change and go into NGO administration. This would be at the small local level.
Because this diverges from my professional background in business and marketing, I'm thinking it could be good to include the political campaign on my resume because a lot of that is applicable. I did a lot of fundraising, I hosted events, I gave speeches/presentations and I traveled around the local area a lot. This would all apply to the potential job I'm looking at now. However, I also know that politics is very divisive right now and would be worried it might put people off.
Other than that I'm still planning on putting my professional experience down and tailor the description to highlight things that would apply better. I'm just debating whether to include my political experience or not.
