Should I Give my CV Unprompted?

I've seen this advice a few times on a few posts, but basically people are saying that even before a job offering is posted, I should ask the company if they are willing to hire me. Apparently, it shows initiative and enthusiasm. And there are less competitors since I'm I'm only who gave a CV unprompted without any indication a position is available.

Is this a good idea? I feel like it sounds sort of demanding and impolite. But then again, I've never tried doing something like this. It might actually work. If there are any experiences anyone is willing to share with following this advice I'd like to hear some! 🙏
