Potential assembly job giving me only 2 business days to accept tentative offer when I still have a few more interviews to tie up that will not make it in time.
TL;DR: Job wants me to accept tentative offer in 1-2 days after interview or will rescind it, even though they know I still have one more physical interview to go to.
So I have had so many interviews this week whether they be phone calls, zoom, or in person--all manufacturing jobs. I interviewed in-person somewhere yesterday and HR called me asking how it went afterwards and I said it was the best place I have been so far tbh. She asks if I can tell them the next day what my decision is already. She already knew that I had quite a few interviews that week and even another that day, while not even having my in-person interviews for some of them yet. I was clearly very uncertain about that and even said it could possibly be Monday that I would know. I still had one last virtual interview later in the day after she called. She sends me an email with a tentative offer like she said she would, but it says to please let them know by the next day by noon. Well, I thought I would at least see how the other virtual interview went first before having a problem here.
That interview goes really well and this guy was surprisingly really impressed with my resume compared to the other companies. I also personally like what they manufacture a lot more, and these people even have big robotic arms doing some of the work! Both are very recently fast growing companies offering about the same pay and flexibility for part-time hours to work with my full-time student schedule.
So now I'm in a bit of a hole and email HR for the job that I still haven't toured in-person yet. I say that I have some offers that are maybe time-sensitive and was wondering how the interview went and if I would be touring the plant soon. She says it went great and that she was just about to set one up for 4:30 on Monday (This is all occurring today--Friday). Then, I email the other job and say that it will definitely be Monday like I said it might be, but specifically Monday evening (even though I know they would probably not be in the office anymore by the time I finished the tour). She sends back, "Thank you for the update. We can only hold the role for you until 3:00 PM on Monday. If I don’t receive a final decision by then, we will be rescinding our offer." which caught me by surprise. So obviously, my in-person tour will not make it in time before then.
First of all, manufacturing and warehouse jobs around here are DESPERATE for workers in the current market, so I can't believe they would even be fussy about it. Secondly, shouldn't I be given at least a few more days? It's the weekend now and nobody is doing any interviews during that time. I feel like other jobs I have had and accepted in the past have given way more time than that, no matter how big or small the position is. They have to understand that I am not going to just jump on the first offer thrown in my face? This is a worker's market right now lady, there are many options out there 💅🏻.
I feel like the way she was pressuring for me to accept by the next day is a red flag and speaks to how desperate they are? But then she said they would rescind the offer in literally two days which is totally the opposite... Is this common? I hope it isn't or is a red flag and that I am rightfully turned off from this job now. It just sucks that I haven't seen the other place yet except for pictures, but I am hoping it is a pretty good plant and that they offer me a position afterwards (I feel like the 3rd step with a tour is pretty promising, especially just for some assembler in a manufacturing plant?).
