My entire work history consists of restaurants, selling insurance, and working as a virtual receptionist, and I've never made more than $25k a year. I've been getting so burned out from jobs sooo quickly. My boyfriend's dad referred me to his friend who is an area director for a local branch of an international shipping company. I was hired mid August to work for them through a temp service for $18 an hour(highest hourly pay so far), and their usual length of time for the temps is 3-6 months before moving up to a permanent position. I work in the imports department and handle invoices.
I don't have to talk with anyone except for my coworkers, and only if I need or want to. That was the problem with all of my former jobs-- I was being completely drained from interacting with hundreds of strangers every day whether it was face to face or over the phone. I was aware that I was hired for a customer service position at this job and was prepared to be on phones again, but my role will almost never have to speak to someone outside the company. I can show my tattoos, keep dying my hair fun colors, and the whole office is on a hybrid work schedule where we're home 2-3 days a week.
On September 30th I was offered a permanent position to start on October 18th! The salary is $17k a year more than my last job, and hourly it breaks down to almost $4 more an hour than with the temp service. I still can't believe it. I feel like I'll actually be able to pay down my credit cards and be able to save and STILL have money to spare. I didn't want to say anything here before getting the permanent position but now I feel like I can without jinxing anything! It feels so unreal for things to be working out!
