Hi, I'm having an awful time trying to get a new job. Here's my portrait: I'm still in college studying accounting. Earlier this year I had a pretty decent job which was related to my line of study. The pay was okay, but I really appreciated it since it was my first official job. The only issue is that the commute was a monster, and it became incompatible with my life as a student.
Now, look, I got this job through my uncle who had a friend, and so forth. I didn't find it and win out over the competition (if there was any). I thought, "hey, I've got a little experience under my belt, getting a new job should be easy-peezy, right?" Wrong. I've been trying to use job boards like Indeed, and I've sent out dozens of applications. There was a phony job here, an inconclusive back and forth there, and the point is that nothing stuck. It's been months and I feel like... well you can imagine. This really really sucks. The worst thing is that I have no idea what to do. "Indeed sucks," people say. LinkedIn sucks, GlassDoor sucks, etc it's all bad. You can't just walk into a store and land a job anymore, I've been told. So here I am: Not enough on the resume to speak for itself yet, and with seemingly no avenue available for getting a job... *so what do I do?*
I honestly don't know, and that's why I'm here. Every weekend I talk to a friend who says "What? Still no job? You could have a job like this *snap* if you apply to a grocery store!" As if I hadn't applied everywhere I could. This is really humiliating, but I'm sure everyone here already knows this story, so I'll spare it. What I want to know is this: What the heck do I use to get a job? How do I get in touch with an employer in such a way that I'm not just wasting my time sending endless applications that won't get anywhere? I apologize if this question is too common, but I'm at a loss and I'm desperate to get *somewhere*.
