I've been job searching for almost a year. Had a handful of interviews but got rejected from all. I'm in my 30s and it's really depressing coming to a realization how much I messed up my career. Got advanced degrees from fancy schools and other stuff but I never could get the jobs I wanted so I bounced around job to job, company to company looking for a better opportunity.
This latest one I liked everything about it. Location, type of work, job title, and the company. I actually interviewed for the same job 6 years ago and got rejected after the final round but I was willing to accept this delayed career detour now because it's a well-respected and known company that I could see myself sticking with and moving up within. I want to stay in my current city so I had hopes for this one but the hiring manager rejected me. Not sure why. There aren't many other companies with the type of role I'm looking for in my industry in my current city that I haven't sought out so I'll likely have to move away soon. I worked so hard to move back to this city after the job opportunities didn't work out 6 years ago and it's where I want to live but it looks like it won't work out again.
Truly depressed and stayed in bed almost all weekend. It's a combination of realizing that my career has been a sad story, probably chose the wrong industry as it's so damn competitive but it's way too late to switch now due to sunk costs, and lost all opportunities in this city so I'll have to move away soon. Really questioning myself all weekend. I'm so sick and tired of job searching, and truly on the verge of giving up.
