Lowballed after interview filled with ludicrous questions

I recently applied for a job that is in my career field and was a step up in role/responsibilities. “My Big Boy Job”. After the first two interviews, I was very confident that I was their guy. Both interviews ended with me being asked my salary expectations. I stated multiple times my expectations were between 75k-80k.

The third interview (video interview) comes. It involves the General Manager, Plant Manager, my possible manager, HR Manager, and the HR Assistant. I answer all the basic questions and I’m fairly confident that I nailed it.

Things get really weird when it I think it’s all over. Before the interview is over, I am asked a series of ludicrous questions from the manages.

  1. How many quarters can fit on a railroad track from LA to NY?
  2. How many people do you think steal from their employers? They needed an exact percentage. Zero was unacceptable.
  3. Would you feel insecure if you had superpowers when you were born and then lost them suddenly?
  4. How would you feel about working on assignment, in another state like Arkansas, for six months and then being told you have to stay there for 2 more years?

After answering these questions, all of the managers took notes and ended the interview. The next day I receive a call about my salary expectations which I repeat as 75k-80k. I get an offer letter for 60k. It was like a slap in the face. Apparently, my answers to the crazy questions were too well put together and showed I should take a lesser role with the same responsibilities.
