I got a conditional acceptance for a job with the US Government but my clearance background check takes "6-9 months depending on your background". My background is quite dull and uneventful, but 6-9 months is a long time. Since I am currently unemployed, if I get a decent offer before that time, I may be forced to take it for financial reasons, even though the government job is likely to be more desirable...
