Tips on requesting 1 WFH day/week

So I've been at my job over a year and would like 1 WFH day/week by the 2 year mark. I'm hesitant to ask because a few people have recently been turned down when they asked, but roughly half of staff have this privilege (it seems like all the top performers get 1 WFH day a week).

I've performed really well and received a promotion at the 11 month mark (and two 4% raises in that time) - I've exceeded every expectation. I have a great relationship with my boss and plan to bring it up at my performance review in January. It might be awkward for her because a couple friends of mine (on my own team) were turned down in the past and got the runaround from management, but others have since been approved. Any tips would be appreciated!
