So I worked at a startup that a buddy of mine started. I was pretty stupid and just accepted a handshake agreement for equity as compensation, but it ended up failing so I never really followed up on it. I did spend a good 9 months there though and it was an actual company with clients and everything.
Now here I am 5 years later applying to a company and they're asking for W2's and stuff which I don't have to prove I worked there. How do I go about validating that this even happened? Can I just give them the contact information of the guy who founded it? Should I just ask HR what to do?
