I just received and accepted an offer from a company I’m excited to work for and the job is fully remote.
I was recently promoted back in the spring. I had full intentions to stay with my current company for at least a couple of years until I saw the management of the area I stepped into. My current boss is wonderful but he is retiring very soon and turning us over to a monster. She talks down and belittles everybody. She’s reminded me on a monthly basis how beneath her I am because she is my manager’s back up.
My company is extremely old fashioned and brag about it. It’s a big deal they have a white woman on the Executive level. During Covid we were only allowed to work remote for six months and then had to go sit in the office. Majority of the job can be done remote but my employer won’t even consider hybrid. Which is their choice but they are now having extreme turnover because people are finding remote jobs and leaving.
One other factor making this more complicated is we have a coworker going out on an extended leave in the next few months. This job takes several months of training before the new person can be on their own. I would really screw them over.
This was the first job I applied for. I’ve been lurking in this Reddit so I figured it would be 6+ months, and maybe it would have been if I hadn’t been able to take a pay cut.
I want to do the right thing and turn in a two week notice. Since we are an at will state my employer has started kicking people out when they turn in their notice. I don’t have vacation time built up other than a day or two so I would rather not lose out on two weeks of pay.
Has anybody been in the situation? Would you turn in a two week notice or just walk out the Friday before?
