My manager has been taking it out on people recently. She's not a great manager. Her tone, her delivery, her general self-awareness, it's all pretty bad. She can be quite abrasive and has already ruined multiple of my days at work. I don't hate her as a person, She's just not a great manager.
This week, she publicly lectured me about something petty. I immediately asked to speak with her privately. I told her what she did was not okay. She was remorseful and wanted to confirm that I wasn't going to tell anyone else. Not knowing how to respond, I said that I wouldn't.
I approached my director and told him what happened. He told me about his difficulties managing her. Apparently she has hasn't been responding well to feedback. When he asked me about what I wanted to happen, I suggested a manager switch (knowing that an organisational reshuffle is imminent). Whilst he didn't outright reject it, he encouraged me to remain under her management and said that people deserve another opportunity.
I'm torn. I can understand managers giving employees another chance. But employees giving managers another chance seems like an unfair power dynamic. I just don't want something like this to happen again and then be annoyed that I didn't do enough about it.
