My contract might be extended. Should I ask for a raise?

So, i’m currently a retail sales associate at a designer store. I’m part-time seasonal and was told that upper management would love to have me as a permanent employee when my temp-contract ends, regardless if I still want to be part-time. Right now, i’m making only a dollar more than minimum wage and took a big pay cut from my previous employer to work in designer apparel, so that I can broaden my experience in that department. I definitely want to be paid more, but want to know if it’s a silly idea to do so. If not, how should I approach my employer for a pay raise with out stepping over any boundaries?
