Has anyone accepted a full time job and decided to go part time at the other job instead of resigning?

I accepted a new job offer. I don’t know if I will be a good fit because there will be more responsibility and I feel I may be under qualified. I’m thinking of asking my current manager if I can work 4-16 hours a week while working the new job. That way in case things don’t work out at the new job I can return to my current one.
