Why do people have to correlate a hobby with turning it into money?

Every time I mention something I bought or having a hobby (or hearing about someone else's hobby), it turns into "You could make money doing that!"

I actually do not enjoy the early adulthood and how money is basically everything to people. Or if youre doing something you enjoy, but not making money (or trying), youre wasting your time.
