Was supposed to hear back by "the end of today" even though it's only been two days since the interview. Should I follow up?

I had a job interview with the whole team on Wednesday morning, and they told me they'd discuss things yesterday and get back to me either yesterday or today with a final decision. I know that the time zone they're in puts them at the end of the work day for today (at least traditionally) and I haven't heard anything. Should I send a follow-up email? If I do send a follow-up, should I do it now while there's still a chance they're at their desks, send it over the weekend, or send it Monday morning?

If they hadn't told me I'd hear back today, I wouldn't stress about sending a follow up for at least a week, probably more like 10-14 days. But... they did say I'd hear back today. It's making me nervous, because I feel like no news is bad news. But I also don't want to look pushy or needy.
