I got a job through employee internal referral, do I need to gift that employee something as a thank you?

An employee of the firm I got a job with told me about the job opportunity that I interviewed for, got the offer and accepted. As a thank you, should I get that employee a present? If yes, would a bottle of Champagne be appropriate? What do people usually do? I don’t want to be an ungrateful brat, but also don’t know if it’s custom to gift something as a gesture. How much to spend, etc.

Any advice is appreciated.

Edit: in case this makes any difference, as suggested by a comment below, I am in America. This is my second real professional adult job and had never been in this situation before so don’t really know what is customary. Thank you!!
