I'm currently working at one of the big box stores after several months looking for work. I've been working in the paint department because I have nearly 20 years experience in paint sales.
Recently though, the job has taken a turn for the worse. There's a lot of infighting in the department and gossip that goes on every day. My coworkers are angry with me because I won't "pick a side" and the department manager is definitely part of the issue.
I took the step of speaking to both HR and 2 of the assistant managers, but they told me that my department is "the biggest gossip factory" in the store and there's nothing they can do about it.
I'm ready to quit because the stockers (both night and day crews) told management they refuse to stock my department anymore. Now I'm being called in on my days off to put away 5-6 pallets of stock by myself and they just cut hours off the back end of my schedule so they don't have to pay me overtime.
Most recently the department manager forced the department to sign a copy of the job description, which I'm not sure is even legal, but we signed it in duress.
Am I overreacting?
